Homemade Chocolate Sauce

Hello everyone, I hope you all had a great weekend.  To start off our sweets week I thought that if we started with homemade chocolate sauce, we could then incorporate the chocolate sauce in other treats we are going to be making this week.  It should be said too that this chocolate sauce can also be used in milk to make hot chocolate, or chocolate milk as well.  Ok so let's get started.

1 cup of water
1 cup of sugar
3 tablespoons of vanilla
1 cup cocoa

In a small sauce pan whisk the water and cocoa under medium heat.  From there add sugar and keep whisking.  You need to check to see if its sweet enough for what you like, if its not sweet enough add more sugar.  Continue to whisk, this isnt something you want to leave on the stove because it burns very easily, and yes I had to learn that the hard way lol.  When this comes to a simmer take off the heat and whisk in the vanilla.  Do not boil its very important you let this come to simmer but not to a boil.  When its cool enough go ahead and put it the fridge it will thicken.

Its that easy and a lot less expensive than to buy it at the store.  You could also serve this over ice cream too.  However you use this sauce I hope this is useful for you.  Live, laugh and love.

Blast from the Past Three Fer

Hello everyone so I am sure you all noticed that I was mia yesterday.  I am very sorry but it was just one of those days. So today I figured I would go through my old posts and pull up three small easy recipes for you.  I am in the process of getting things ready for next week's theme that is why I am bringing back my old recipes.  Next week's theme is going to be sweets and treats.  Also if you have a recipe that you want me to post on here let me know I will give you a shout out for it.  As always live, laugh and love everyone I hope you enjoy these.

Texmex Bean Salad

Hello everyone, I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Let's get right into our recipe today. Over the weekend I had a request to do a different kind of salad. We all know that salads can be boring, I have found and used a creative salad and its not boring in the least. It's a texmex bean salad and its anything but boring. You will need 2-3 cans of beans doesnt matter what kind, I used butter beans or chick peas some call it, black beans, and red beans. Drain them all, if you want to use dried beans for this those would be great too. 1 large bell pepper I used one green and one red to give it even more color. Tomatoes, shredded carrots, jalapeno pepper, celery, green onion and corn, I used white corn in ours simply because white corn is my favorite but use what you have on hand and what you like. For your dressing, a whole jar of salsa, I used mango salsa because we love that kind so much but if you dont like it just use what you like. In a large bowl add your beans, diced celery, diced green and red peppers, diced tomatoes, shredded carrots, diced jalapeno ( I used half of one because we were feeding the kids too), diced green onion and a cup of white corn. Mix all the ingredients together and then add your salsa. Let chill in the fridge for an hour or two or serve it right away after making. I served this with my veggie chicken and rice bake. I will give you that recipe in the coming days so watch for that one. My family loved the tex mex bean salad and I hope yours does too. Until I see you tomorrow thanks for checking out mishmawsh. Please Dont forget to live, laugh and love.

Hi everyone, sorry there was no post yesterday I was just not feeling all too well. I am feeling much better today and I have a recipe for you that sounds difficult but is probably the easiest thing to throw together on a hot day or any day for that matter. All you need is extra virgin olive oil, two cloves of garlic, tomatoes sliced, mozzarella cheese fresh works best but you can flub a bit and use mozzarella string cheese I wont tell on you. And you will need basil and a nice Italian bread or crusty bread of your choice. Grab a large plate and layer your sliced tomatoes with your sliced mozzarella and in between the slices of cheese and tomato add a piece of basil. From there you want to grab your garlic cloves and give them a good smack to get the skin off but don't chop them add them whole to a small sauce pan and a couple of tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil depending on how many you are serving. If you are only making it for one or two people you might want to have one clove of garlic to one tablespoon of evoo. Put the oil and garlic on a medium heat and only heat through until its warmed, you don't want the oil to pop. Remove the garlic and put aside. Drizzle the evoo over the tomatoes basil and cheese. Add salt and pepper to taste and sprinkle some oregano over the top. Next slice your bread, figure one slice per person put them on a cookie sheet and spray cooking spray on the tops just so they brown in the oven, next add the garlic you used in your oil, you want to mince it though so you can sprinkle it over your bread. Preheat your oven to 350 and when you start to smell garlic bread its probably ready if not close to it, your bread is ready when its toasted. I like to sprinkle my salad and my bread with Parmesan cheese to give it an extra little yum factor. I hope you and your family enjoys this recipe as mine did. Until next time I hope you all live, laugh and love.
This was my caprese salad and garlic bread.

Cinnamon Crisps

Hello everyone, thank you for reading my blog today and all the other days. So yesterday I wrote about back to school or work snacks. Following in that same theme here is another idea that is quick and easy and really yummy and your kids will love it.
You start off with one tortilla wrap, cinnamon and brown sugar. Spray a frying pan large enough to fit one tortilla wrap, with cooking spray, let the pan get hot and put your tortilla wrap in there browning both sides. Take it off the heat and top with with cinnamon and brown sugar on both sides. Next cut it in quarters, you can serve this with sugar free apple sauce. Pack it for work or school and you have a delicious snack that takes no time to put together. My daughter likes to dip the cinnamon crisps in her apple sauce, she says it tastes like apple pie lol. I will take her word for it. I like having them by themselves with some tea or coffee. Its a great little pick me up without a lot of fat and calories.
I hope you all enjoy my cinnamon crisps. Have a wonderful weekend guys and remember live, laugh and love.

Hi everyone, so sorry I forgot to put up my blog this morning.  We have had quite the day of sick husbands and kids as well as spring cleaning.  Yesterday I cleaned out Bailey's closet and gave my friend 3 bags of girls clothes.  We have been cleaning bees around here and we did it all in our jammies, ya cant get better than that.  We had to run to the store today and that was a dreaded trip that really needed to be done.  We only went to Sam's and Walmart but it was like a journey to the end of the earth with the girls.  Issy doesn't like shopping with me anymore and Bailey wants everything she sees.  Where is the happy medium in this I have no idea.  I did finally buy my favorite shampoo and conditioner finally, that on sale crap I bought at rite aid was making my hair feel like straw but that is what we do to make sure our kids our taken care of so they can beat us up some more lol. Just kidding about that.......almost.  Anyway because I totally spaced it today how about tomorrow I put up two oldie but goodie recipes for you all.  I hope you all enjoy your thirsty Thursday and live, laugh and love!

Archive of Chicken Spaghetti

Hi everyone, so this blog I posted  when I first began blogging and again the format is a little different than the way I do it now.  However this recipe is a staple in my house.  We love it and my mother and father in laws love it as well.  Its really easy to make when you are busy.  However I make it because its one of my personal favorites and I cannot say its all mine either.  I got this recipe from my aunt and I have changed some things in it.  Just as a side note I am going to be putting up some pictures on my blogs.  The recipes that I do not have personal pictures for will have a picture of one the main ingredients in the dishes.  If you see a picture of a recipe that is all prepared that is a picture of my own.  Just so you know which is which.  Live, laugh and love everyone enjoy!

This isn't your Traditional Spaghetti

Hello everyone , thank you for stopping by. Feel free to leave comments, suggestions or concerns. Today I have a recipe for you all that is quick and easy to make. Not too many bells and whistles with it either and great for a summer time meal. I call this chicken spaghetti. We start out with 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts. Cut them into bite sized pieces and then season with salt and pepper. From there heat up a large pan with a tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil and just a sliver of butter. Add your chicken breast to the pan. While that is browning, start boiling your water for your spaghetti. Make as much or as little as you need here, I usually make about a quarter of a pound to feed 4 people, maybe a little less. After your chicken is browned you will need to add the following: 1 envelope of four seasons italian dressing (dry), and a quarter cup of white vinigar. Let the chicken mixture reduce. Optional at this point is adding a package of frozen broccoli. If you dont like broccoli you can substitute it for any other veggie or leave it out completely. From here you will need fresh parmesan cheese the stuff in the can will not do it. I know its rather expensive but if you keep a small triangle of it in your freezer it lasts longer and a little bit of this heavenly goodness goes a long way. Shut off the heat to your chicken (after it has reduced) and grate the cheese over the top. Drain your spaghetti and add your chicken and italian dressing mixture to the spaghetti and your done. For a side you can either make a mixed green salad or cheesy garlic bread. I will give you recipes for those at another time.

I know times are hard for some people today but if we take the time to live, laugh and love its quite possible to get through anything life throws at us.

Blast from the past Pasta Fagioli

Hi everybody this recipe I put up back in December but since its been so cold outside I thought I would re post it.  This recipe comes with a review from my husband at the end of it.  I hope you get a chance to try it and I hope you enjoy it as my family did.  Live, laugh, love everyone.

Pasta Fagioli

Hello everyone, today I am making a recipe that I have been making for a few years now and I am just now putting it on my blog. It must have been a blond moment as to why its taken me this long to put up this recipe that I make during the winter months. Its not expensive to make and its a one pot meal. Within 20 minutes or the time it takes to cook pasta you have a healthy meal for your family. I hope you all enjoy this as my family does every winter. So lets get started!

1 Pound of ground beef or turkey
1 Onion chopped
1 Bell pepper (color is your choice)
1 Stalk of Celery chopped
1 Carrot diced
2 cloves of garlic minced
Pinch of italian seasoning
Pinch of basil
Pinch of oregano
Pinch of salt and pepper
1 large can of crushed tomatoes or you can make your own which is what I use sometimes
1 smaller can of diced tomatoes
1 can or dry of red beans, if you use dry make sure you precook them before you make this
1 can of white beans
1 can of black beans (if you use canned beans make sure they are all drained)
4 cups of beef broth or chicken broth
2 cups of water
1/2 cup of any small pasta, I use elbow macaroni but I have used wheels and mini bowties too

Grab a large pot of any kind just big enough to make soup in, drizzle a little of evoo and cook your meat and veggies together, just until the meat isnt pink and the veggies are soft. Next start adding all your other ingredients except the pasta. Bring everything to a boil and add the pasta cook for about 20 minutes or just until the pasta is ready. Serve with a side salad and a crusty piece of bread or toasted pita and you have a meal that is healthy, warm and hearty.

Look for my husband's review below, and until we meet again I hope you all live, laugh and love.

To me, the true measure of any dish is whether the kids like it or not, especially the younger ones like our 3 year old, Bailey. Heather is an exceptional cook and I like 99%of what she makes. Issy the 8 year old does, too. I approach any new thing Heather creates with an open mind (and taste buds) but a critical eye, as it were. When she made this dish, I had never had it before, so my critical "eye" was opened wide. long story short, this dish was excellent. To me, it was real close to a stew-type dish which I like better than a soup. I like the 'stick to your ribs" feel of a stew, so this stuff was right up my alley. And Issy's alley. And, believe it or not, Bailey the Finicky Eater 3 year year old liked it too! She even told her mommy that she liked it. When Bailey likes something enough to actually speak her approval, it's dang good! And this was dang good. i look forward to the time when Heather cranks up the kitchen and Pasta Fagioli is for us to magia. Arrivaderci !

A Blast from the past recipe and a Side Note

Hello everyone, I hope your President's Day is going well.  This week I am not putting up any new recipes, because my oldest child is home all week and there are things planned with Girl Scouts and friends moving and what not.  I just wont have the time to put up new recipes.  However I will go back through all my older recipes that you may or may not have seen and next week I will be back with new recipes.  I hope you enjoy and live, laugh and love.  Be warned that the format that I used for this older recipe is read a little different than how I do my recipes now.

Hello everyone , thank you all for stopping by today. Lately its been so warm and everyone is out enjoying the weather swimming, fishing or just visiting family. Whatever the case may be I have a quick and easy recipe for one of those days where the last thing you want to do is slave over a stove. To start you will need 4-6 boneless skinless chicken breasts, a quarter cup of balsamic vinegar and one to one and half teaspoon of brown sugar. Mix the vinegar and brown sugar together in a bowl until the sugar dissolves, then take a zip lock storage bag or large bowl to fit the chicken and marinade into. Store in your fridge for about an hour or two. Its best to store over night if you can. Now when the chicken is through marinating, you can either grill it or use a grill pan that goes on your stove. Cook it until its done but leave it on your grill, next you will add on top of your chicken a piece of ham that is cut to fit the chicken and a slice of mozzarella sliced cheese. Cover your grill or your grill pan just until the cheese is melted. Take off your grill or grill pan and now you can either make sandwiches with it or dice it up and put it over a salad. My family and I like it just as it is with a few sides of veggies, maybe some rice or a nice salad. Serve it with a icy cold glass of iced tea and enjoy.
I hope you all enjoy this recipe with your families its quick easy and we seem to think its very delicious. Thank you all for checking out my blog it means a lot to me. I will put up a blog on how I make my iced tea another time so be looking for that. Until then I hope you live, laugh and love.

Berry Breakfast Smoothie

In this video we just used what we had on hand you can swap out any ingredients you wish

Hello everyone, I am not feeling so well today so I figured I would put up an easy recipe. This is to finish out my breakfast in bed theme. Next week I am not sure where I am going to go with my recipe ideas. If any of you have any recipes you would like me to put up on this blog let me know and I will see what I can do for future blogs. At any rate I am getting very sleepy as we speak so I better get this out to you all.

2 frozen bananas
1 cup of frozen mixed berries
1/2 cup of plain non fat yogurt
1/2 cup of freshly squeezed orange juice
1 tablespoon of honey
1 handful of grapes

Grab your blender or food processor and add in your orange juice, yogurt, honey, and grapes in the blender. Next break up the frozen bananas and add those to the blender as well as the berries. Blend on high until its at the texture you prefer. Grab some glasses and straws and you are ready for a very yummy treat. These smoothies are my girl's favorite. As always you can adjust this recipe to whatever you like and you can make more or less. Live, laugh and love everyone.

Banana Strawberry Pancakes

Well we are getting towards the end of the week with our breakfast in bed theme. Today I figured I would keep it simple and instead of some huge recipe for pancakes, I am going to take a little help from the store and use bisquick. They have healthier varieties on the market that are the same in price. I make these pancakes at least once a week for my little girls. They love them and I hope you will enjoy them as well.

1 cup of bisquick or if you are feeding more add more
Milk I dont measure the milk I just eyeball it
2 eggs
1 pint of strawberries fresh
2 bananas
1 tablespoon of sugar

Before I get started I slice up the fruit and reserve half the strawberries in a separate bowl.
Add the bisquick to a mixing bowl and mix in the eggs and milk. From here I add in the bananas and mash with a fork along with mixing it all together. Then I add in the strawberries. Grab a griddle or skillet and add a tiny bit of butter until it melts. I use a 1/4 measuring cup to pour the batter onto the skillet. Its very important to leave the pancake alone until you see bubbles then you flip it. If you move the pancake around too early you will have a mess. While you are frying up the pancakes you need to have the reserved strawberries and sugar in a bowl to let them get juicy. After your pancakes are all finished drizzle them with the strawberry and sugar mixture for a delightful syrup.
I hope you get a chance to try these and I hope you like them. Stay tuned tomorrow for a special update and recipe to finish out breakfast in bed theme. Live, laugh and love everyone!

White Chocolate chip Brownie Cookies

Hi everyone, so I know that this recipe is not really breakfast food but who says it cannot be a little treat to have in the morning? I thought if your hubby, wife, friend whoever makes these for you and puts a couple on a tray with some tea, coffee, or juice it would be lovely. I came up with the idea of these cookies because I am terrible about making brownies. Either the boxed version or made from a recipe I am always burning the outside and the inside is goopy. However I can make cookies and hence the idea for these. I made them last night and they are so yummy, I am very impressed with myself. I thought I would share this recipe with you today and share a picture I took of them too. So let's get these bad boys started !

1/2 cup of butter
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1 cup of flour
1 1/2 cup of granulated sugar
1/4 cup of cocoa
1 cup of chocolate chips
1/2 teaspoon of salt (optional)
3 eggs
1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
1/2 cup to 1 cup of white chocolate chips
1/2 teaspoon of baking powder
1/2 teaspoon of baking soda

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Melt butter, chocolate chips and brown sugar in a saucepan on low heat. Put all your dry ingredients in a big mixing bowl and mix with a fork. When the butter, chocolate and sugar are melted together add to the dry ingredients. Mix together until just combined and add in eggs and vanilla. Mix until everything is incorporated and add in the white chocolate chips. When the white chocolate chips are mixed in, grab two teaspoons and put spoon out the batter onto a non stick cookie sheet or a cookie sheet with non stick cooking spray. Bake for 8 minutes and let cool on the cookie sheet for about 5 minutes then transfer to a cooling rack. This recipe makes a little bit more than 24 cookies, depending on how big you make the cookies. This would be a great recipe to make with your kids, its fun, they are quick and easy and messy. Until tomorrow everyone live, laugh and love.

Sweet Bacon

Hi everyone, so yesterday I had a recipe for spicy eggs and I was thinking that sweet bacon would go perfect with them. Its a play off the whole sweet and spicy thing. Here is the recipe and you will be shocked at how easy it is to throw together.

1 pound of bacon depending on if you want left overs or not
1-2 large cookie sheets
cooking spray
About 1 cup of maple syrup

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees, spray your cookie sheets with cooking spray and then put your bacon one slice at at time in the cookie sheet. Bake in the oven until the bacon is about half way done or just as the bacon renders its fat. Drizzle each slice of bacon with maple syrup on both sides. Yes this is a messy process if you would like you can foil the cooking sheets before putting the bacon on them for easy clean up. After you drizzle each slice of bacon with the maple syrup, put the bacon back into the oven to finish cooking. When the bacon is done its a sticky sweet and salty delight. Save some of the maple syrup if you want a little bit more on your bacon. Either that or just save it for tomorrow's recipe, I will give you a hint its a simple breakfast idea that you can have any time of the day or night. Until tomorrow everyone, live , laugh and love.

Spicy scrambled eggs for two

Hi everyone, I hope you all had a great weekend and I hope you all have an even better Valentine's Day today. We are going to keep with our Valentine's Day theme here at Mishmawsh and then on Friday be on the look out for a post that is going to be a new idea for my blog. Still the same in the way of recipes but you will just have to wait and see. Ok let's get started.

2 tortilla wraps you can use corn or flour
4 Eggs beaten
1 tablespoon of oil or butter whatever you prefer
2 roma tomatoes seeded very important
1 hot pepper like a jalapeƱo
2 green onions chopped

In a large skillet heat up oil. Grab your kitchen scissors and cut in your tortilla wraps. While those are frying you want to beat your eggs and cut up your veggies. For your hot pepper if you clean out the ribs and the seeds of the pepper it wont be as spicy as it would be if the seeds and ribs are there. To seed the tomatoes take a small spoon like a teaspoon and put your spoon in the center of the tomato and turn the tomato. The seeds will come right out, after that is all done take your tortilla wraps out of the oil and drain on a paper towel. Add your veggies to the hot skillet and your eggs until the eggs are done to your preference. Serve with coffee, tea or juice. Stay tuned tomorrow when we add some yummy ideas to have with these eggs. Live, laugh love everyone bye for now.

Sweet Child O Carrots

Hello everyone, yeah I know that the title of this recipe is goofy, what can I say I am a very goofy person. So this is another side dish and like all the other sides we made today, this one can be a side to just about anything too.

2 cups of baby carrots
1 pat of butter
2 teaspoons of honey
1 pinch of ginger
1 drizzle of lemon juice

Boil carrots until softened but still firm in the middle. Next grab a large skillet and heat the butter, honey, ginger and lemon juice. Stir it around until everything is blended and the honey is not so thick anymore. Make sure you dont let this burn though it will be a sticky mess. Add in the carrots and turn off the heat on the stove. Make sure all the carrots are coated and serve. Quick easy and delicious, enjoy. Have a great weekend everyone, live laugh and love.

Herb Roasted Red Potatoes for two

Hello everyone, so today I thought about sides for the chicken cutlets we made yesterday. Herb roasted potatoes will go great and if you use red potatoes then you dont have to peel them so that is one less step you need to worry about. I should also point out that if you are using fresh herbs dont worry about the stems because the herbs will fall away from the stems and you can just pull them out when you are done. For the chicken cutlets you will want to take the herbs off the stems before coating the chicken with them. Ok so let's get started!

1 pound of red potatoes, I know this sounds like a lot for two people, the reason leftovers for another meal or maybe a special breakfast.
The other half of the herb packet from the chicken cutlets
Extra virgin olive oil
Salt and Pepper
Aluminum foil

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Cut the potatoes in half and arrange on the foil, make sure the foil is rolled out big enough to hold the potatoes. From there we drizzle the potatoes with extra virgin olive oil, herbs and salt and pepper. Fold up the edges of the foil around the potatoes to form an envelope almost. You want the potatoes completely covered and put your foil pouch on the cookie sheet and bake. Every 15 minutes during the cooking time you want shake the potatoes to make sure they cook evenly. After about 45 minutes they should be ready. Dont worry about over cooking because unless you are boiling them you cannot over bake a potato as long as the skin doesn't burn. If the skin does burn just peel the skin off the potato should be fine.

I hope you enjoy this recipe its one of my personal favorites. Sometimes the less ingredients the more flavor you get from whatever your cooking. Live, laugh and love everyone!

Herb Chicken with Cherry Tomatoes

Hello everyone, so today keeping with our theme of simple meals for two and or romantic dinners. I thought I would tell you about this herb chicken that I make. I usually make this to be rubbed on a roasting chicken but you can use this on any other cut of meat as well. As a footnote here I usually save myself some time and buy the poultry herbs at the grocery store. Its an assortment of various herbs, rosemary, thyme, dill and oregano. This is what this recipe calls for, however if your grocery store doesn't carry this bundle you can use herbs you have on hand or buy them individually. So lets get started its a very simple meal with simple ingredients and extraordinary flavor.

2 boneless skinless chicken cutlets
Half of your poultry pack ( you will see why you dont use the whole thing in another blog)
Salt and pepper to taste
1 cup of Cherry tomatoes

Wash your chicken and pat it dry with a paper towel. Next add your salt and pepper and herbs rub on both sides of the cutlets. In a skillet heat it up when the skillet is very hot drizzle extra virgin olive oil and add the chicken immediately. Cook until the chicken is no longer pink. From here while the skillet is still hot add your cherry tomatoes and reduce the heat. Keep the tomatoes in there until they are soft. Pour the tomatoes over the top of the chicken and your done. Your main course is finished and it took minutes to make. Look all through this week for sides to go with this chicken.

Live, laugh and love everybody. Have a great day!

Dessert Pizza for Two

Hello everyone, so for this week the theme is going to be simple and easy recipes that the men in your life can cook for you, or you can cook for them whatever the case may be. I figured I would start with dessert first because that's just how I roll. I mean who doesn't like dessert first, and men if you are reading this keep that in mind. I took a little help from the store for this one.

1 package of sugar cookie cookie dough or any flavor would work chocolate chip would be divine.
About a cup or more of strawberries, sliced banana and sliced kiwi, you can use any assortment of fruit you like. this is just the assortment I like.
1 cup of chocolate chips
1-2 maybe even 3 tablespoons of Milk or cream whatever you have on hand

Start off by using a pie pan because a pizza pan will be to large if you are making this two people. Spray the pie pan with non stick cooking spray. Then roll out your cookie dough to fit the pie pan. Bake on 350 in the oven for about 8-10 minutes. Let cool and then melt the chocolate chips in the microwave for about a minute or so. You want to watch the chocolate chips the whole time because when they start to melt is when you want to bring them out and add the milk or cream. Keep stirring until the chips melt. You want the chocolate to have some sheen to it like chocolate sauce. Make sure its thin enough to pour over your cookie. If it isnt add a little more milk to it and keep stirring until it is where you want it. You want to reserve some of that chocolate to top your fruit with. Next Slice and arrange your fruit however you like. This is a fun part because you can be very creative with this. Then take your reserved chocolate and drizzle in any pattern you prefer over the top. Slice it up in pizza wedges and your dessert is done. I hope this brings a lot of love to those of you who make this. Until tomorrow my friends, live, laugh and love.
